About

Hi! I live in Cornwall, Ontario, a small city in Eastern Ontario located near the US-Canada border.

I have been married for over forty years and have three adult children and five wonderful grandchildren.

I enjoy camping and gardening in the warm weather, but winters I prefer to stay indoors with a nice glass of Merlot.

I am Presbyterian and proud of it, and God and church play a significant role in my life.

If I’m listening to music, it will be something from the Golden Oldies period, with Elvis and Neil Diamond topping the list.

I have an eclectic taste in movies, but I draw the line at slasher flicks and horror. My imagination won’t let me forget those quickly. I love science fiction and fantasy and James Bond is my hero.

I love to read; I immerse myself in the text and, as my husband says, the house could fall down around me, and I’d never notice. My preferences are as varied as there are genres, but nothing really beats a good romance, especially one that is filled with suspense. I love historical romance too, and have read quite a few of those. Nora Roberts is my favorite author.

If I’m watching television, you can count on it being a suspense — I’m not a fan of reality TV.

Writing gives me the most pleasure. I love creating characters that become real and undergo all kinds of adventures. It never ceases to amaze me how each character can take on its own unique personality; sometimes, they grow very different from the way I pictured them!

Inspiration comes from all around me; imagination has no bounds. If I can think it, imagine it, I can write it!

  2. Nice to meet you Susanne. We have a few things in common. First, God plays a significant roll in my life too, and, I was also born in Canada, although we moved to the states when I was five. You mentioned somewhere that promoting on Facebook feels like pushing your book down someone’s throat. Me too! I do like twitter fine and have carefully gathered at least 7000 legit followers, although it takes work to communicate with those who can equally share back and forth. I’ve thought of hiring a high school student to help on that. I just followed you on Twitter.

  3. Looks like we used to be kind-of not-so-much neighbors. I grew up in Buffalo, NY and spent a lot of time in Ontario. And I definitely get completely lost in books quite often too!

  4. Back in 1975 I was seriously considering taking up an offer of a job in South Africa, My boss at the time tempted e to stay in England with a hint that I might be considered for a project in Cornwall, Ontario, That project didn’t happen, but I was not sorry to have turned down the South African job. The company was Courtaulds who have long since disappeared. I wonder what is on the site of their Cornwall plant these days?
Thanks for your comment on my atoz ‘W’ offering.

    • The Cornwall Ontario site of the old Courtaulds’ plant which I remember well, houses a number of different thisg– a computer business, an apartment complex and a housing subdivision. It took a long time to decommmission the soil of pollutants. I’m sorry you didn’t get to vist our town, but you wouldn’t recognize us now. We were a mill town, but all of the big mills have closed and been torn down. Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Stopped by for the first time today with IWSG. The name of your website, Living the Dream, caught my attention. Good to see a fellow grandparent participating with the youthful brilliance that populates these blog hops. What we lack in youth, we more than make up in experience (and unfiltered opinions). Keep on writing!
